『自信」について

〜イギリス赴任日記〜

1月7日の日記であるが、書いている内容が非常に深い。。。普通は年明けはぼやっとしているものだが、この当時の自分にはぼやっとする時間はなかったようだ。

2001/01/07 「『自信」について」

It’s second time to add this diary in this year. The reason why I am writing now is because I’d like to express my feeling for human confidence.

How people can have a confidence for their behavior or word. There might be several ideas. First one is very natural thing, it’s coming from their natural character. This mean he is natural born self-confidence but this is very very rare case, we have to say. Others are to growing their confidence from their accomplishment. It’s like a piling up the blocks. Because this is piled blocks, you have to build very stable foundation at first. Otherwise it’s like a sand castle and it’s very sensitive and easy to break. And what was even worse, there are a lot of people who is breaking others confidence unconsciously or consciously. This is truth without doubt. To prevent to be broken your confidence, you have to fight each time to secure and confirm your position because there is no people having 100% confidence for what they are doing. This is coming from the creation of power game. The more stronger has more power to express their idea and move the things. In your case, you have to express your idea under any condition to try your idea to get the confidence. There shall not be any confidence from no trying. Of course there must be mistake and sometime you lose more confidence existing on you but that also could be the potentiality for your future confidence because you just learned that way is not right. When I joined this company, someone told me that you can try anything only when you are young. I didn’t realize this point at that time but now I clearly understand there is no stretch in this company and this circumstance prevent young staff to grow their confidence and expand their imagination for their and company’s future success. What is the most important thing for me now? It’s field to attempt my potentiality. There are many field I am very interested in. Real business study and its challenge, which is entrepreneur. Make grown the company, which is company operation. Of course there are many many elements and factors like marketing, financing, accounting and human resource management. But all these will be done by people. My idea to achieve these things are to manage the people. It’s impossible to know everything. Therefore the idea to control these things will be down to control people who can do each job. However there also be very big difficulty to do this. It’s if you suppose to control people directly and show you are trying to control them, you would be failed because people doesn’t like to be controlled since they borne. On the other hands, even if you are very good at pretending to be a good guy who is trusting all employee without any doubt, you would be failed in very near future because God make people imperfect. If you would like to control the staffs, at first you have to control yourself to be reliable person. What make you reliable person? Finally it comes back to beginning, which is confidence. Maybe this is like a ring and you have to keep trying and challenging because like I said God makes people imperfect.

I think there is only one thing which reliable guy’s job. Make a decision and take a risk.

I am just reading a book writing about risk. Since old days, lots of mathematician trying to express risk in number and they had success. However they found the numbers(average or other statistic numbers) not help perfectly. They started thinking there are other elements affecting to decide future incident. That’s people’s will. The result by throwing the dice is individual each other and there is no other element affecting this result but the incident could happened in real life is not individual each other. That’s the reason why they are challenging to predict what is going to happen and have failed. However in the business we have to make a decision under uncontrolled condition. One conclusion is to minimize the elements which are uncontrollable and maximize the elements which are controllable.

 『その当時を振り返り』

「自信」について自分の考えをまとめている。生まれもって自信過剰の人間以外(そんな人はいないと思うが)は、自分の経験における成功を通して少しずつ自信を養って行くもの。また、企業経営の中で社員をコントロールしようとすると、相手はそれを敏感に察し、コントロールされまいとする。社員をコントロールしたいのであればまずは自分自身をコントロールできるようにならないといけない。そして、自分自身をコントロールするためには自信が大切であるというところに戻って行く。そして、自信をもった偉大な人は、リスクを取って決断・行動を繰り返し、そのプロセスが更なる自信に繋がる。人間がやっていることはある程度統計的に結果を計算できるさいころの目のようにはいかない。だからこそ外部環境をコントロールしようとせず、自分自身をコントロールすることを目指すことが大事なんだろう。
